an inconvenient truth

this vedio start with a beautiful river view implies that environment problem is the main topic. this presentation indicade the climate change and how is it influnce human life and environment .This video intended to awaken human awareness of environmental protection and encourage the human protect the environment from every aspect in their life.

in the beginning of the vedio, The speaker shows different periods of the Earth's satellite images, people could see the colour of mainland changes with the contrast from differen periods photo. This moment left me a deep impression , because the earth is the home for human survival, but we are destroying our home by ourself.

in the vedio the speaker said that"what get us into trouble is not what we don't know is what we know for sure that just ain't go"and he leads to the theme of global warming through a cartoon. global warming is the main problems leading many disasters, but the reason for global warming happends is because of us. global warming is because of the increasing amount of co2 produced from human industry. co2 is a green house gas that could keep the heat inside the atmosphere.The scientists found that the temperature rise have a direct relationship with rising carbon dioxide levels.

 climate change influnce the landscape of mainland. because the increasing temperature there have fact like millting glaciers and some area have drought. then the speakers showes some fact that is pictures has been taken for same place but in different periods. for instance, he shows the pictures about killmanjaro in Africa, there use to be covered by snow before few decade but in the recent picture there only have a little snow at the top of the mountain. the scientists saide that in the next decade there won' have any snow.  there also have other place have same situation like Glacier national park, in the Himalayan region there have 14 percent of the world's population but because of the melting of glaciers will lead to shortage of drinking water. aoccroding to the record there have lots of high tempereature record in America.

climate change also influnce the temperature of ocean.with the ocean temperature increasing there have more steam in atmosphere then it developing into typhoon that influnce humans life frequntly. in 2005 typhoon attacted america, indian, china japan and many other countrys. in some area with the temperature increasing some lack was disapeared.

As temperatures rise and glaciers melting, will cause a great impact on the cycle of the monsoon currents and even lead to the most in parts of species extinction. the ice could reflecting heat during the melting process, if the glaciers melt, the sea will absorb the sun heat caused a serious impact on the natural environment.With the temperature rise in the number of insect activity area increases, this will lead to a number of diseases spread, animal and plant extinction.

all these fact shows us we need to change our habit and technology to protect the environment. as a designer we should integrate the concept of environmental protection to our design and reduce waste and pollution.

The lightbulb conspiracy

the vedio "the lightbulb conspiracy" is a documentry film that indicate the political and economy planned behand the industral production. there have some case indicated in the vedio including the printer case, lightbulb case, nylon socks and the environmental problems behand the conspiracy.

in the vedio the printer is an example of the consiracy. engineers put a chip into the printer, this chip is control the printer "die" on time. the life of an printer already set up only lasting for 5 years. the user in the vedio named Marcos found this secreat of printer. in the vedio it said "the product is designed for failed"
that is the way how company increase the demand of marketing.

the lightbulb conspiracy has the same situation. there have a lightbulb in US firestarion and it keep burning for over 100 years. people have celebrate its 100years birthday. I never know a lightbulb could continu buring for an centry. how fantastic it is! but the fact is the lightbulb company and government make a rule for increasing the demand of market, the rule is make each lightbulb life under 1000hours. so conpany asked engineers back to the start,  design the fragile lightbulbs is for increase the demand for market and increase profit for the company. the fact is even there have more lightbulb designed for lasting long life but they never appears in the market.

there also indicate the fact of waste product. all the rejected material has been transported to the third world county. there use to have beautiful landscape at these country but all the beautiful environment has been replaced by the garbage. even it is illegal to transport the garbage to the third world country, but the first world country still could find reason to transport these garbage to the third world country.

as an designer, I was thinking a good product is combined many features: beautiful functional durable end ecofriendly. after watching this vedio i found that there still have many gaps between the dream and reality. to promote a good design to the market and attract people use it, there still have lots of works to do. but people should realize the environment fact of the world. if there have more polution more waste, it is not good for the  sustainable development of the whole world.

WHO KILLED THE ELECTRICAL CAR

This video stars at a solemn ceremony, which shows respect to the high technology and environmental friendly idea vehicle.this vedio described an electical car which is EV1 how did it appeared and disappeared. the advantage of electrical car and the reason why it is disappeared are introduced in this vedio.anyway the high technology and high environment protection awareness worth everyone to learn from it. The electric car was appearing in 1996 California. Last century, the electric car are much popular than gas car because electric car are much quieter smoother and easy to charge at home. Why the gas car developing so fast and occupy the whole vehicle market nowadays? Because gasoline was cheap at that period and the gas car have a faster speed. Nowadays the disadvantages of gas car are appeared. Every gallon of gas produces 19 tonnes of carbon dioxide. The greenhouse gas mostly as we know is co2 bring out many environmental issue like climate change raise the temperature of atmosphere and huge amount of melting glacier cause waterflood the polluted air also case caused cancers and respiratory problems. in the film even the EV designer engineers and public car lovers try to stop the government murdering the electric car. even they tryed so hard, even the electric car have low price, faster, smoother and most important evironmental friendly features people cannot stop the idea been murderd. however the reason why the electrical car been murderd is because the high price of production and there will be a huge investment to build charging station all around Amarica. in this vedio also introduced hydrogen vehicles and some other technology vehicles. overall the EV-electrical car is a important innovationfor the vehicles development history. as a designer whatever the product we designed we must consider the as comprehensive as we can. designer need to consider as much as we can when we want manufacture a priduct.like the whole environment in the society include the law, political, environmental and marketing aspect.

project3

Rationale In this project the location is in Maroubra junction pacific square. There have café and small restaurants around square so my design also considers the people who waiting take away food and drink coffee. My public benches design plays with the combination of cubes. There have two stand cubs with handrail on the back, people could leaned against the cubs waiting for take away food. The three small cubs in the front is sitting area for people drink coffee and relax. The interesting part is two bigger cubs on the side. There have small benches in the bigger cubs. So if there have more people want to sit there they could rotate the benches out. The rotation axis interlocks benches together and prevents people steal it. There have social problem like people come to the place but they don’t interact. so I want to encourage a social interaction between people so that they can have the sense of community. The hiding benches are a part of interactive and attract people willing to play with it. Consider the safety problem I arranged these two hiding benches system on the side so it will not regard people use the area.

social issue:there have high number of people sudden death from heart disease, there also have many of them could alive if have medicin or intravenous injection in time. this medical box is designed for these people. if heart disease patient fell uncomfortable or pass out at street, every one could help them alive by give them medicin in time. in this medical box there have 4 space to place tablets and other side there have intravenous injection needle tubing and injection medicament. this some fact about people who have heart disease Number of noninstitutionalized adults with diagnosed heart disease: 27.1 million. Percent of noninstitutionalized adults with diagnosed heart disease: 11.8%. There are 250,000 to 450,000 sudden cardiac arrests each year in the United States. There are over 450,000 sudden cardiac arrests each year in China.

Last century, the electric car are much popular than gas car because electric car are much quieter smoother and easy to charge at home. Why the gas car developing so fast and occupy the whole vehicle market nowadays? Because gasoline was cheap at that period and the gas car have a faster speed. Nowadays the disadvantages of gas car are appeared. Every gallon of gas produces 19 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This vedio focus on the destiny of EV1, which is a high technology electrical vehicle with high speed and designed with two-seater in 1990.The "Impact", at the Los Angeles Auto Show. That September, the California Air Resources Board mandated major-automaker sales of EVs, in phases starting in 1998. From 1996 to 1998 GM produced 1117 EV1s, 800 of which were made available through three-year leases. Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Toyota also produced limited numbers of EVs for California drivers. In 2003, upon the expiration of GM's EV1 leases, GM crushed them. The crushing has variously been attributed to 1) the auto industry's successful federal court challenge to California's zero-emissions vehicle mandate, 2) a federal regulation requiring GM to produce and maintain spare parts for the few thousands EV1s and 3) the success of the oil and auto industries' media campaign to reduce public acceptance of electric vehicles. vedio packaging

Packaging material include tinplate, aluminum, glass, plastic and cardboard, these material can recycled after use. There also have chance to reuse these packaging materials directly. Packaging should also be stored and handled carefully to avoid damage that may prevent its reuse.
These videos provide information about recycle process of these materials. For instance there is very high rate that 87% aluminum cans are recycled in Germany.
Around 83 per cent of waste paper recycled in Australia is used to make
packaging and industrial paper. The remainder is used to make printing and
Writing paper, tissues and newsprint.

Before recycle process separating and segregating packaging waste ensures it does not become contaminated. Successful recycling requires clear signage, training, monitoring and space as discussed in the Recycling solid waste fact sheet. If large volumes are collected consider a compactor to maximize storage space.
Tin Cans: Tin cans are made from 95% steel and only 5% tin. In order to be recycled the cans must be “detinned” using a caustic chemical solution that dissolves the tin from the steel. The steel is then sent to steel mills to be made into new products and the liquid is transferred into an electrolysis bath. When electricity is applied the tin collects on a plate where is can later be melted off and fashioned into ingots.

Aluminum: Beverage cans are the most-recycled consumer product in the United States. When aluminum reaches a recycling plant it is shredded and melted. The molten aluminum is gradually hardened into ingot form. These ingots can then be made into aluminum sheets or other desired forms. The metal sheets are used to make new aluminum cans and the cycle begins again. Making aluminum from recycled aluminum scrap take only 4% of the energy that it takes to make aluminum from raw bauxite ore.

Steel: Steel can easily be removed from other recyclables because it is magnetic. Once separated the steel is melted in a furnace and then poured into casters that roll the steel into sheets. Recycled steel cans may be made into new cars, girders for buildings, ships, or new food cans. Steel can also be recycled again and again. It does not lose any of its strength or quality in the recycling process. It can be a never-ending process that continues to save energy and resources.
cardboard :The process of recycling cardboard involves soaking the cardboard in water and stirring it until it has broken down into individual fibres. Each time cardboard is recycled the fibres get a bit longer but cardboard can still be recycled several times before the fibres break down completely. The cardboard is then cleaned and any contaminants like ink, bits of sticky tape and metal clips are removed. After cleaning, the pulp is then ready for draining and drying and rolling into sheets which removes any final traces of moisture and binds the fibres together to make the cardboard. The recycled cardboard is now ready to make into new cardboard boxes and packaging.

seasonings container

Rationale
My project is about a container that storage spices or tea bags. Some spices are bigger than others. For instance bay leaves and cinnamon are stored in large quantities in kitchen for cooking soup and stew meat.

My design is inspired from the way pinecone storage seeds. I design this container in 5 parts so each part could remove, because this container is use little area in kitchen and spices or teabag also should be easy to take and refill from it. There have another benefit of the separate part is the flavours will not mixed up. This container are made from plastic so it will be much easy to product in variety of colour and size so consumers are free to play with the colour and size. Moreover it is much easy to identify the spices inside. The container has a cover on the top to prevent the absorbing moisture from the kitchen steam vapors.

THE material use Polypropylene is recyclable and has the number "5" as its resin identification code: .The PP is relatively inexpensive, has adequate mechanical properties (impact resistance) and easy to mould.


The biomimetic of this design is pinecone storage seeds in different gaps. So this way of storage seeds inspired me to design a teabag container, finally the concept developed to storage kitchen stuff like big size spices or teabags. The shape of this container is developed from the cross section of pinecone

how about make a cover on each gap. the small size container could stand on the structure of the gaps. there have a small angel of the push in cover so it will every easy to take and refill tea bags. if people put different flavor into different gaps so the flavor will not mix.

this container inspired from pine cone.the way of pine cone storage seeds inspired me how to storage small bag of powder like tea bags, coffee bags and other small stuff we use in the kitchen. this container could design in different size to contain many different stuff. this container have 5 gaps, if we have some teabags in different taste we can separate them into gaps.

this wine storage inspired from cocoon which storage baby butterfly. this is half cocoon shapes wine holder i chose this shape because the cylinder shape could follow the curve of the wine bottle and make it stable. there also have 2 stands underneath. there also have a interlocking property, which could connect together when people want storage more wine it will be much safe

video reflection-the 11th hour

The 11th Hour is a 2007 documentary film, created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, on the state of the natural environment. This film indicates many environmental problems caused by human. The problems are including the planet's life systems, global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats. Human are at the last seconds of the 12hours life.
The problem is not global warming, the problem is not waste, the problem is the way what we are thinking. We still have chance to change the situation of environment.
David Suzuki said that in the 4,000,000,000 years of earth’s history, 99.9999% of species ever existed have become extinct. So, it’s not unnatural for human beings as a species to become extinct. It is a shame that human is taking more than 54,000 species a year to extinction.
Oceans and rainforest can produce oxygen; absorb carbon dioxide, control climate weather and temperature. But green house gas is increasing with the development of human industry. There have lots of waste when people production product. Sea contains a large number of toxic substances and heavy metals. The desert is expanding, rainforest in the disappearance. the polar ice caps are melting and the earth has become more and more hot.
As a designer what we design should consider the environmental development problems. We also should consider how our products influence people to protect environment. The way and material of production is also important that industry could reduce more waste and pollution.
