Video: Annie Leonard

After this video, I found that when we buy a product, we only attention the exterior and the function of the product, we didn’t think that much of the history of a product, in here history not mean the design or the evolution of a product, it mean from the Extraction --> Production --> Distribution --> Consumption --> Disposal.
In this history of a product, most of the steps are hide, in my own view, I think it is intentionally, by teaching the wrong things to the children, in the video it point out that in 1950’s industrial designer is to design how to make the things break early, but to keep people still buy more stuff. Start to teaching the children, only let them see the better half, to hide the rest of the bad. Parents buy lot’s of stuff to the child, start from Gameboy, GBA, NDS, PSP, to wii, Xbox, after the child get a new toys, they know is to throw the old toys, it give them a bad habit.
However now day, some of the designer try to save the earth, save the nature, they try to use the things that people throw out, for example, schamburg and alvisse, “Recopol”, but this is address the symptoms, not the cause, to do it better it need to start from the factory, factory make things that are more tough, things can use longer, then can use less material to make things that can use longer time, start recycle from factory is better than recycle from family, to make things better we need to start from the begging.
Government become the tools of the consortium, product design become the assassin of the nature pollution. The government and the consortium because of money, to destroy the earth, to teach the people wrong things, designer design better things is not to give people a better or happy life, is to give people pressure, a harder life, people need to work harder, to but the same function things for a few times, however after all that they don’t have much time to use it.

design career

What bring me to become a industrial designer, the main reason I think is because of my uncle, a very successful man, he worked in China, when I was young he always bring me some funny, interesting toys that he design and handmade of wood, when I grow up I found that he work in a big toys company, as a designer, I learn from him how to use the tools, how to draw, that’s why when I was 16 I want to become a industrial designer, to design things that I like, good outlook, creative product. Another reason I want to learn industrial design, is because industrial is different than the other design subject, industrial design is a big area subject, everything we use in daily life can also design by industrial designer and my dream is to design a product that can fit everyone to use. The last reason is after school, every product need a designer to design, product design, industrial design maybe is the most popular design job in the world.
I want to design a design that can fit anyone, no matter tools, mobile phone or any product, just hope to design one things that can fit everyone. However until now still don’t have any idea what to design, how to design. I have see a lot of design, that can also fit for most of the people, however still can’t let everyone like it, fit it.
Why will I choose industrial design in UNSW other than the other university, last year when I study foundation in UNSW, I heard about industrial design is one of best career in UNSW, UNSW bring out a lot of good industrial designer, also UNSW teacher all are good designer, I am really happy that can learn from all the good designer. Also some of my friends also study the same career with me. For me Industrial design is not only a subject career, is also my dream, industrial design can let me learn how to make the product, what design is good. UNSW is a good place for study, for learning.
I still don’t know what future is good for me, it is still too early for me, I need to know what can I learn, what will I learn, how much I learn before I choose my future, design change every day, new idea come out from designer every day, three years later will be really different, so I still can’t choose my future.

Video: David Kelley on TED > Human Centred Design

David Kelley the founder of IDEO, he created a stanford's school of design D-school. From a engineer change to a initiate" Human-centered Design" designer. In this video he introduce a few design from his company, that is focus on product design. Then he start his topic Human-centered Design. Human-centered Design is much focus on human, is a special kind of design that unlike the other design, most design is also design to help people, solve there problem, technology and good out shape is also a big part of these design. But Human-centered design is back to what human need, these kind of design is use to solve the most basic and practical problems.
Inside this video, David have introduce a few Human-centered Design, the last design "Money maker deep lift pump" is sure a Human-centred design, it solve Kenya's water shortage, irrigation problems, making easy tools maybe don't have much technology, but this is what they need, not big machine, what they want is tools that is cheap, easy to use. Think about what people really want, to design what people really need. This is Human-centered design, think from human, think for human.
For the PRADA design this is another kind of Human-centred Design, this is also base on what human want, is to let the sales know what the customer want,, then they can base on what the customers want to suggest product to the customers, also the mirror, this is what the customers want, they want to know everything about the product, they want to know who design, all the information about the product, and the display board outside will let the customers know everything, and the mirror can let the customer know how it look from any angle. This is also think from human, think for customers.
Children want fun, worker want there own lovely working space, this is all what human want, design for human, design a things that what human need.
