T2 VIDEO REFLECTION: Video 6 energy efficient design
Energy efficient
design is considered from the overview of the whole system lifecycle of energy produce,
transformed and consumed. In the example, the refrigerator only consumed 16%of
the energy. But these 16% energy produced a lot waste like green house gas,
water consumption. But instead by using solar energy the efficient increased
and produces less waste.
Meanwhile to
solve this problem and increase energy efficiency we should consider the right technologies
and energy sources even right material etc. on the other hand to minimizing energy
lost is also important. There have a lot clean energy nowadays so the best way
of using it could much more benefit the environment
In
conclusion the way of using energy, how to increase the energy efficiency and
how to reduce energy loss is a further steps we should consider as a designer.
T2 VIDEO REFLECTION: Video 5 Green materials selection
This video
talked about what is green material. Firstly Green material is abundant non
toxic minimal resources and right physical properties of function but also meet
regulation, good end of life options and also affordable. Secondly I am
thinking is even we have a lot of material could use for design as a designer
we should compare many materials and familiar with the material production
process and waste. Meanwhile we need know the material physical properties then
we could choose the best material for specific design. Thirdly in the video we
could use a mug instead the disposable paper cups. This is a good example of
what we could do. Most people think we use paper cup for public conditions like
party, public working place and nobody want to bring a heavy mug to every where
maybe there have a opportunity that we could design a sustainable material durable
lightweight cup.
In conclusion
there have a lot of opportunity that could change our life. Material selection
is a important aspect of sustainable design.
T2 VIDEO REFLECTION: Video 4 light weighting
To create
light weight product, we need to consider the material and waste of producing
the material, technology process and manufacture process. Like the bike
innovation reduce the 55%of weight but make it a lot stranger.
The first
point is this video use the comparison of production steel and aluminum waste
to illustrate the light weight design impact environmental. Less material is
saving less natural material and energy when designers finding out how to use light
weighting material.
The second
point is even light weight has the impressive environmental benefit, but sometimes
it is not the best choice if it is right the improvement and the sustainability
will be impressive
The last
point is if we cannot find out the way of designing light weighting we could
think about the whole system lifecycle and figure out other ways.
In conclusion,
designing product for sustainability we should consider more about the material
using even the processing of the material production and waste.
T2 VIDEO REFLECTION: Video 3: improving product lifetime
This video tells
the relationship between the product and product waste. Through the product
life time it inspired me how to achieve the environmental friendly target.
The first point is
we should consider the energy waste behind the product. In the video, it said
there have 8kg waste behind to produce a mobile phone. If we could extend the
product durability we are actually reducing the pollution.
The second point
is for designing sustainable product if the lifecycle could without virgin
material and waste that means we don’t need more recourse and also we don’t create
any waste.
The third point is
when designing product we should consider the product intended use. Like the
food packaging we cannot design something just used for a second and cost
thousand years to be biodegradation in the environment.
In conclusion,
extending product life and find a way to design product without waste is
important problems that we should figure out. The right strategy should be chosen
for specific design.
